Chinese IT Officials & Executives Invite the World Industry at CES to Attend CITE –
China's New Flagship Expo for IT and Consumer Electronics
(Las Vegas, USA, January 8, 2014) Chinese government IT officials and industry executives from Beijing and Shenzhen held a press conference today at CES to update on China’s IT and consumer electronics development and invite the world industry to attend the 2nd annual CITE – China Information Technology Expo - a new flagship show and conferences - to be staged on April 10-12 this year in Shenzhen.

Addressing the press conference is Mr. An Xiaopeng, Deputy Director General of the IT Industry Department, The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) from Beijing. He said, “China is one of the countries in the world with largest IT industry in scale and market size, with the fastest growth and full of vitality.” CITE was launched in 2013 in Shenzhen – one of the largest IT and consumer electronics bases in China and the world - to meet the new needs of the various players. It became right away the largest in Asia in floor space, with complete industry representation. This year the event is expected to be of even bigger scale, with more than 100,000 square meter floor space and 1500 exhibitors.

Mr. An said in his speech that China’s 2012 IT annual sales revenue achieved Rmb 11 trillion yuan (US$1.78 trillion); China manufactures over 50% of the world’s mobile phones, computers, and color TV sets; It also produces the largest volume for dozens of electronic components and parts; It has become the base of manufacturing, R&D, and procurement for the global IT industry.

China has the largest number of mobile phone users in the world, now at 1.216 billion; It also has largest number of Internet users at 500 million; Among them 270 million often go e-shopping, 132 million make online travel arrangements; On November 11th last year – the day named by the Chinese young people as “Online Shopping Day” , Rmb 35 billion yuan (US$5.6 billion) worth of sales were made on Alibaba's e-commerce platform alone. It attracted 17 million shoppers simultaneously at the peak time, with 188 million transactions and resulting in 152 million parcels;

Developed by China’s largest Internet company Tencent, WeChat - its social networking application – has already amassed over 600 million users in just a span of three years. As the world’s largest smartphone and smart TV market, the 2013 sales for smart phones in China are estimated at 340 million units, 83% increase over 2012; smart TV sets 20 million, a 109% increase. All these point to the country’s potential for the biggest global electronics and information product market growth.

Mr. An Xiaopeng is also the Deputy Director of the Office of the CITE Organizing Committee. Joining him at the press conference is also Ms. Dai Jing, Chief Representative of the North America Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government, who emphasized the advantages in running CITE in Shenzhen in his presentation.

Mr. Li Dongsheng, Chairman of TCL Group, gave a keynote speech entitled “The Innovation and Development of Chinese Enterprises in the Internet Age”. The conference was chaired by Mr. Chen Wenhai, Vice President of China Electronic Application Corporation, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the CITE Organizing Committee,.

Among the attendees of the press conference are over 70 American business and technology media members, 30 representatives from Chinese and international IT companies and 10 IT industry related trade associations.

CITE is directly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China and Shenzhen Municipal Government. It aims to showcase latest Chinese and global IT technologies, products and innovation, stimulating industry cooperation and technology exchanges and creating new and more business opportunities.

CITE 2014 is expected to receive more than 100,000 visitors with launching events for over 1000 new products and technologies. It will organize industry forums and seminars on 30 latest hot topics. Mr. An points to following features and objectives for CITE this year :

Firstly, to showcase and stimulate innovation. To be an important global stage for the gathering of innovative talents, the exchanges of innovative technologies, the showcasing of innovative products and the spread of innovative ideas. With 4G service being rolled out this year in China, related products will be the hot attractions for this year. They include smartphone, smart TV, new type display, wearable electronics, big date and cloud computing.

Secondly, be more global. CITE will be the important platform for the first tier global companies to showcase their new technologies and launch new products; for information exchange among top class global entrepreneurs, technical experts, investors and professional buyers; for observing the industry trends by global electronics media professionals and mass media.

Thirdly, to cover more complete industry chain. CITE is a global and comprehensive electronics and information industry expo, with more complete industry chain coverage. There will be 23 specialized exhibition zones to cover the whole industry chain. The products and market sectors will include mobile smart devices, computers, network equipment, digital audiovisual devices, software and information services, the Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data, integrated circuits, flat panel displays, LEDs, lithium ion batteries, photovoltaics, new electronic components and materials, automotive electronics, financial and medical electronics.

Fourthly, to be more professional. CITE will provide more professional and user-friendly services for exhibitors, buyers, visitors as well as media members. There will be new product and technology launch centers at the expo sites along with services for on site setting up, media covering and audience organizing. There will be also one-stop services for exhibitors, including consulting on and meeting arrangement with Chinese buyers and suppliers; The CITE's press center will provide media friends with services in information gathering, on-site interview as well as news releasing.
